How Much Solar Power Can My Building Produce?
Self Assessment
- Step 1: Measure the square footage of your roof Area Calculator
- Step 2: Determine the amount of obstructions on your roof Low Obstructions (some vents), Medium (a few pieces of equipment) , High (several pieces of equipment)
- Step 3: Area in Sq Ft X $1.50 (Low obstructions), $1.30 (Medium) and $1.10 (High) = Estimated annual solar revenue per year
Professional Assessment – Let Us Do It For You
- Solar Panels graphically placed on roof using a solar measurement tool, we use Helioscope
- Helioscope calculates solar production based on location of building, building position relative to sun movement and shading
- The solar production is used to calculate the amount electricity that will be saved annually
How Does Solar Work?
- Solar energy production is used by the building when it is being produced and excess generation is fed to the electricity grid via reverse metering
- Excess solar generation shows as a credit on the electricity bill offsetting electricity usage by the building when solar is unavailable – this process is called Net Metering
- In most jurisdictions in Canada solar production can offset the entirety of the electricity costs over a 12 month rolling period
FAQ: Is a battery installation required for solar
A. No. The value of solar is gained through the Net Metering Program where your utility “purchases” the power and provides a credit on your electricity bill
What Incentives Are Available for Solar Installation
